Okanagan
Valley Canoeing and Kayaking opportunities are plentyful
and found everywhere in this lake rich region. Within the Okanagan
Valley and located throughout the outlying areas are many
lakes including two large lakes that anchor the Okanagan valley
- Skaha Lake and Okanagan
Lake.
Then there is
the famous houseboating destination of all lakes, Shuswap Lake located
just north of Kelowna is also a popular destination for canoe and
kayak. And, then there is the warm paddling lake anchoring
the south end of the Okanagan Valley - Osoyoos Lake. There
are so many lakes, just too many lakes to be crowded in the Okanagan
Valley region when canoeing or kayaking.
The two immediate
lakes in the Okanagan Valley area ideal for canoeing and kayaking
are Skaha Lake and Okanagan Lake.
Both lakes in the Okanagan Valley offer extensive north and south
sandy beach shorelines accessed by the public and serviced by many
restaurants, pubs, coffee houses, ice cream stands and gift
stores.
Other lakes ideal
for a canoe or kayak adventure that are located a short drive away
from the main communities in the Okanagan Valley include Vaseux
Lake, Kalamalka Lake and Wood
Lake. A group of Okanagan Valley lakes
a little more remote, rugged and, ones, that provide more wilderness
and wildlife scenery.
The Okanagan
Valley Canoe and Kayak
guides and rental companies located on the more popular lakes
will have tours or maps which include an opportunity to view pictographs,
geological artifacts, steam ship remnants, historic pioneer trails
and maybe, a one in a life-time chance of meeting Ogopogo - a mythological
neighbour in the Okanagan - rumour or fact?
Located in each
of the community sections are lists of adventure companies to contact
for more information on specific canoe and kayak rentals and tours
available during the summer seasons. Self guided kayakers and canoeist
