Rock
Creek, Boundary Country, BC is
a recreation destination surrounded by farm lands, hay fields
and cattle ranches. Nearby, in the backcountry, are looming
mountains, raging rivers and remote lakes. It is a wilderness
environment popular for hiking, canoeing, fishing, swimming,
birdwatching and boating.
Rock Creek is situated in the
Southern Okanagan Valley region, located just east of the community
of Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada. The main street of the
town is lined with a small selection of stores and shops. Some
of the services important to travelers in the community include
a gas station, corner store, accommodations and a restaurant.
In the early years of Rock Creek,
mining of gold and silver, were the driving forces that fueled
the local economy. Today, the industries, that drive the local
economy include ranching, tourism and agriculture.
The outdoor activities in the
area vary on your destination. The Kettle
Valley Railway Trail runs through the community of Rock
Creek. Rock Creek is a popular southern access point to the
trail for mountain bikers, backpackers and hikers in the summer
- and cross country skiers in the winter.
There are many backcountry gravel
roads in the region. Some roads lead to remote lakes while others
lead to recreation campsites. The Kettle
River Provincial Park, north of Rock Creek, is popular for
hiking, camping, tubing and swimming. Conkle
Lake Provincial Park, northeast of Rock Creek, is a fishing,
boating, hiking, swimming and camping destination.
