Oliver, Okanagan
Valley, B.C., Canada
Oliver, British Columbia
is a southern Okanagan Valley
community surrounded by fruit orchards, fruit stands, local wineries,
farmlands, ranchlands and rolling desert hills. The arid climate
of the community produces vineyards and orchards producing rows
on rows of grapes and apples, plums, cherries, pears, apricots,
and peaches.
The downtown shops and stores include restaurants,
coffee houses, retail stores, grocery stores, gas stations, library,
accommodations and just about everything else a traveler requires
when staying in Oliver, BC. The gravel access roads, outside of
town, lead to dirt biking, horseback riding, mountain biking and
hiking trail. Not far, is Mount Baldy, a ski hill in the winter
and a biking and hiking destination in the summer.

Oliver, BC sits in a sunbelt. It is a community
enjoying, mostly, great weather conditions year round because
it is surrounded by the Sonora Desert
(Canada's only desert). Venture into the backcountry
and the rolling sand dunes, sagebrush and cactus flourish. It
is a desert environment popular for activities like horseback
riding, atving, dirt biking, mountain biking and hiking.
The Community of Oliver, like most
of the communities in the Okanagan Valley is situated on and near
a few lakes. Oliver is on the shores of the Tuc-el-Nuit Lake and,
not far away, is the Mahoney, Vaseux and Gallagher Lakes. Activities
like boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming, beach lounging
and canoeing are enjoyed on the lakes in the Oliver area.
Oliver is the self proclaimed "Wine
Capital of Canada". It is important to know there are wineries
spread throughout the whole Okanagan Valley. It is because of
the rich valley soil, sunlight and, the many, local wine experts
living in the Okanagan Valley earning many of the local vineyards
awards and international recognition.
