Naramata, British Columbia, Canada
is a small agricultural community located on
the southeast shore of Okanagan Lake in the heart of wine country.
The community is recognized for its fertile soil on the Naramata
Bench which is home to many quality Okanagan Valley vineyards
and wineries.
Neighbouring the wineries on the surrounding
hills are orchards identified by the rows of trees with white
and pink blossoms. The Okanagan fruit grown in the Naramata region
includes apples, cherries, peaches, apricots, prunes, and pears.
High in the hills behind the community of Naramata
is the Kettle
Valley Rail Trail (KVR). It is a popular recreation route
for hikers and mountain bikers wishing to explore the Okanagan
Valley. Naramata is one of the best areas to access the Kettle
Valley Rail Trail.
Naramata Village is situated on a small peninsula
on the shore of Okanagan
Lake. The downtown core consists of a few streets lined with
stores including art galleries, restaurants, gas station, accommodations
and gift boutiques. The main commercial business in the region
are the many wineries.
Land activities popular in the region include
mountain biking and hiking. The popular water activities in the
region, most enjoyed on Okanagan Lake, include windsurfing, kite
boarding, swimming, scuba diving, boating, kayaking and fishing.
The biggest and most popular recreation park
is the Okanagan
Mountain Provincial Park. It is located north of the community.
A smaller park with lots of history is the Rock
Ovens Regional Park located on the Kettle Valley Rail Trail.
Ice-fishing is a popular in the winter months.
Many go to Chute Lake or to one of the other alpine lakes in the
region. Snowshoeing, snowmobiling and x-country skiing are also
activities enjoying the snowfall months. Not far is Apex
Mountain which is popular for downhill skiing and snowboarding.
