The Summerland Ornamental Gardens located at the Pacific Agri-food Research Station is an adventure in floral colors, an education in Xeriscape water-smart gardening and a interpretive tour of low water consumption plants. The volunteers have spent a considerable amount of time in research, time and effort in maintaining the gardens.

The 15 acre historical garden was created in 1916 in a traditional English style with long fields of lawns, clusters of trees providing shadows and rainbows of flora and fauna colors.

The Summerland Ornamental Gardens is operated by a garden society of volunteers who play a big part in the development of providing alternative methods for water consumption on landscapes - Xeriscape water-smart gardening - using low water consumption plants. Reasoning being... doing their part on reducing the stress on the worlds water supply by researching alternative methods to reducing water consumption.

The plants are marked with descriptions throughout the Summerland Ornamental Gardens. One can see many visitors embark on a leisurely stroll while enjoying a self guided tour of the various plant life. A main gathering area near the historical building on the park grounds with its rock formations and steps to the arbour is a popular gathering place for weddings and special occasions.
